IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING A CLICKER WITH A MARINE MAMMAL AND A DOG?

There are some similarities and there are also some differences. One of the similarites is that the clicker represents the exact same thing to the dog that it did with the marine mammal. It is a "bridge" which is a defined sound which tells the animal that what he did at that exact time was correct.

One of the differences is that with training a dog with a clicker, the clicker is only used for training the behavior. Once the behavior is trained, the clicker is eliminated. With marine mammals, the clicker or whistle is never eliminated. If you watch the sea lion show or killer whale show, you always hear the sound of a clicker or a whistle.

When training marine mammals, once the behavior is trained, we still continue using the clicker to let the animal know that what he did was correct.joel and killer whale
With this Roman Ride, you can see me getting ready to reach for my whistle. With dogs, once a behavior is trained, we often eliminate the clicker.
