Something I heard a long time ago was "you cannot have a well trained dog unless you have a healthy dog". That is something that has resonated with me for the past 35 years. If you talk to any agility group, obedience group, or trainers of dogs for narcotics or explosives, they will all tell you the same thing. As a new pet owner, it is important for you to understand that your pet cannot tell you when his hair is matted, he is not feeling well, or ears are dirty.
