Repeating the Behavior

When you're training your dog you always want to make sure you use the most appropriate things for correcting that particular animal. In many instances you might find that one of the best corrections is having the dog repeat the behavior. For example, this might be a great type of correction for a dog that did not understand the cue, was not paying attention, or just forgot what he learned. I will tell you that this is the correction that I, along with most animal trainers use with most dogs.

Here is the way this works.

  • You give the animal a cue.
  • He does not respond, or does it incorrectly.
  • You believe that he is either confused or was not paying attention
  • When you ask an animal to repeat a behavior again, remember that you might need to have him repeat it more than once to make sure he understands. After you know that he understands what you want, end the training session. You always want to make sure that end all training sessions on a positive note.
